Who Is the Early Bird?
Birds are often the first animals to migrate in the spring. In this activity you will keep track of the dates when you first hear or see different spring birds! Remember that many birds live where you do all year round. But what are some birds that leave in the fall and come back in the spring? You can learn more about what kinds of local birds migrate at www.audubon.org. You can also ask a grownup to suggest a local bird.
1 Choose a bird that you know migrates in the spring to where you live. Research the color and song of the bird. Draw a picture of the bird in your science journal.
2 Birds are most active in the early morning and early evening. Go outside and listen and look for your bird. The first time you see your bird, write down the date and time in your science journal.
